Mara Keisling

Mara Keisling is a transgender rights activist and founding executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality. Keisling works towards the goal of transgender equality through lobbying, public education, and building coalitions with other progressive organizations and causes. During her time as Executive Director, the Center has contributed to efforts that have resulted for numerous victories for the transgender equality movement. These victories include the first Congressional Hearing related to the issues faced by transgender individuals, the passage of "transgender-inclusive federal legislation", and a revision of the State Department protocol for changing one's gender marker on his or her passport. Keisling periodically offers commentary on transgender issues on numerous news channels.
