The International Transgender Day of Remembrance is an international holiday observed every November 20th to memorialize the transgender men and women who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The International Transgender Day of Remembrance was first observed in 1998 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transgender graphic designer, columnist, and activist, to memorialize the murder of Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts.

Deshawnda Sanchez was shot and killed in Los Angeles on December 3, 2014 while banging on a door for help. 

Jennifer Laude was murdered in Olongapo, Philippines, on October 11, 2014. 

 Popular UK Transgender singer, model, actress, activist and ITHS Hall of Fame nominee, Chrisie Edkins, passes away on June 11th, 2013 at the young age of 33 after taking her own life.

Thirty year old Ashley Sinclair was found shot to death in a wooded area on Rio Grande Drive just off S. Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. Police responded to neighbors calling 911 at 6 AM EDT reporting shots fired in the 1600 block of Nimrod Lane. 

Kelly Young died at a hospital after being found by authorities in a West Baltimore, Maryland home following reports of a shooting. 

Coko Williams was found dead in Detroit. She had been shot and her throat had been cut.

Deoni Jones was stabbed in the face and killed on February 2, 2012 in Baltimore. 

Dee Dee Pierson was murdered on December 24, 2011. Kenyon Jones confessed to the murder, telling police that he had paid Pierson for sex and when he found out she was transgender, he became angry and killed her. 

Vickers was shot in the chest with a semi-automatic pistol on November 17, 2011 around 10pm, near the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Gower Street in Hollywood. 

 19 year old transgender women, Shelley Hilliard, was decapitated, dismembered, and burned on October 23rd, 2011 in Detroit, Michigan.

 Transgender woman, Camila Guzman, was brutally murdered in her New York apartment on Monday, August 1st, 2011.

 23 year old transgender woman, Lashai Mclean, was shot with a semi-automatic handgun & killed on a washington D.C. street without provocation.

 30 year old transgender woman, Astrid, was beaten in the head with a hammer and stabbed.

 22 year old transgender woman, Priscila Brandão, was shot seven times (execution style) on March 2nd, 2011 while walking down the street.

 Tyra Trent was found strangled to death in the basement of an empty Baltimore apartment. She had been reported missing by her mother two weeks prior. Tyra was in the process of legally changing her name and getting her GED. She was 25 years old.

Krissy Bates was found dead in her Minneapolis apartment on Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Bates had multiple injuries, including possible stab wounds. 

M-to-F Transgender woman, Angie Zapata, was murdered in Greeley, Colorado by Allen Andrade. Andrade was convicted of first-degree murder and committing a bias-motivated crime, because he killed her after he learned that she was transgender. This case was the first in the nation to get a conviction for a hate crime involving a transgender victim. Angie Zapata's story and murder were featured on Univision's "Aqui y Ahora" television show on November 1, 2009. 

 Victoria Arellano was a Mexican immigrant to the United States who died from complications of AIDS while in the custody of the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

 Gwen Amber Rose Araujo was a teenage Transgender woman who was beaten & strangled by four young men in 2002.

Rita Hester was a transgender African American woman who was murdered in Allston, MA. In response to her murder, an outpouring of community grief and anger led to a candlelight vigil held the following Friday (December 4th) in which about 250 people participated. This vigil inspired the "Remembering Our Dead" web project and the international Transgender Day of Remembrance. 

Brandon Teena was a 21 year old transgender man who was raped, shot, and murdered in Humboldt, Nebraska on New Years eve 1993.

Carla Leigh Salazar was found stabbed to death in her apartment in California on June 28, 1989.

Was found strangled and stuffed under a bed in a New York hotel room in 1988. Her body was discovered by a stranger four days after her death. She was featured in the documentary Paris is Burning. 

In the first ten months of 2011, 225 transgender people were killed around the world.
